DZIQ 990 AMThe 4th European Union-African Union Summit took place in Brussels, Belgium on 2-3 April 2014. It brought together African leaders and 60 EU leaders, a total of 90 delegations, as well as the leaders of EU and African Union institutions. Discussions at the summit focused on the theme “Investing in People, Prosperity and Peace”. Topics discussed include respect for human rights, rule of law & good governance, right to development, education and training, women and youth, legal and illegal migrant flows between both continents, ways to stimulate growth and create jobs, investing in peace and ways to enhance EU support for African capacities to manage security on the continent. Previous summits took place in Cairo (2000), Lisbon (2007) and Tripoli (2010). The 2014 summit gave them an opportunity to take a fresh look at the EU-Africa partnership, to highlight some of the results that have been achieved, and to explore areas for future cooperation.

After the EU-African Union summit attended by European and African Heads of State, they proceeded to the Royal Palace in Brussels for an informal reception. They were received by King Filip and Queen Mathilde, Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.

–  Meanwhile, a 16-year old girl, Ella-Anne Birchenough from Dover (Kent, Great Britain) dropped her iPhone & fell into a sewer. She tried to retrieve it by opening the sewer then slide down to her waist so her feet can grab the phone. She got stucked and had to be freed by firefighters. That ends well but the iPhone did not survive the fall.

–  Russian President Vladimir Putin is once again single. The Kremlin confirms that after 30 years of marriage, he is now officially divorced from his wife Ljoedmilla Putina. The couple announced in June last year that they would separate and it is now official. References to Putin’s marriage to Lyudmila has been removed from his biography on the official website of the Kremlin. His two daughters are however still listed. In 2008, Putin was linked to the rhythmic gymnast Alina Kabayeva, but the Kremlin denied the relationship.

That’s all for this week…Greetings to Myrna, Danny and Nanay Lourdes Mejia of Bulacan City, Philippines and Miles Cruz of California, USA. Have a great weekend everyone. I love you all!
